The Fitzrovia Centre’s artist in residency programme is rooted in collaborative practice and embodies the principle of partnership. Our core values and approach are founded on community engagement and involvement. Through increased participation in arts, and active collaboration with communities, we aim to explore how community arts can be used as a tool for change, through which we explore our concept of self, community and the way we live our lives. Community art creates a dialogue between be artist people and place.
If you are interested in taking part in our residency programme, and are interested in working on a neighbourhood level, we would like to speak with you. We are seeing expressions of interest from artists that have a demonstrable track record in working collaboratively with the community, in particular with young and older people. Residencies are voluntary, The Fitzrovia Centre provide travel costs, artist expenses and production budget. The artist would be supported by an arts team. We would anticipate the next residency commencing in September 2018 for a minimum period of between 6-12 months.
To apply please send your CV and a short piece of writing (no more than one side of A4) to firstname.lastname@example.org about how you would approach the residency.
Artist-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities exist to invite artists and all manner of creative people for a time and space away from their usual environment and obligations. They also allow an individual to explore his/her practice within another community; meeting new people and using new materials.
